We reviewed Industry 4.0 occupying the agenda for a long time and keeping its temperature with various developments.

 

Industry 4.0 means the new Industrial Revolution in which business processes are managed through scientific methods based on data and which arises by use of Internet of Things, Big Data and Intermachinery Communication technologies together.

 

With these technologies, a Smart Production infrastructure in which all data produced instantly in all processes are stored, processed with user-defined formulas and algorithms, made “Meaningful Information” for process managers through Big Data Analytics and autonomous production processes are fictionalized through rule-based scenarios will be created within a system architecture in which all equipment are defined with a special internet address in the production site. In other words, it is aimed an ideal integration of all hardware and software within company assets.

 

In order to catch this technology wave promising revolutionary changes and unique facilities under Industry 4.0 ;

 

– Points producing data

– Communication infrastructure transferring data produced

Big Data software processing and reports transferred data

– A communication network providing intermachinery communication should be created.

 

Products, standards, application practices are developed intensely worldwide in order to realize this vision within an integrated approach. There is not a single road map determined with certain lines before the companies in order to catch Industry 4.0 Revolution. Companies may access to Industry 4.0 only with strategies they will determine in line with their own visions, even new business models and reason for being - missions- to be made possible by this revolution.

Industry 4.0 definition is made in Germany and includes thoughts and vision of German industry for today and tomorrow. There is only one reason of all these different concepts, it is to understand today of industry society and shape its future. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and interpret the concepts according to facts of their geographies. We heard that the period of Internet of Things started in the USA which stays one step ahead from other regions in subjects of internet and information technologies.The question asked by German Industry actors for this period; what kind of factory should be to produce these objects?What kind of change is/should be applied inside the factory (added value chain structure)? Improvement and perfection of factories in accordance with technology development solely has been a field being continuously studied on, how will the beyond of it be? What kind of a system will connection of factories with each other and demands and needs changing on a social terrain in which factories are located be integrated to? Which technologies will all changes be able to be achieved as new virtual and real realities through?

 

Industry 4.0 concept used by the German is an interpretation of a new industrial social future with a total production system which has cloud-based CPS (Cyber Physical System) on the focus point -added value system- and precipitation of it.With reference to this general discourse, let’s touch briefly how management-operation mechanism of tomorrow’s companies will be.  Important criteria here is skipping from classical-statical (today) applications to more efficient, decentralized, flexible cloud-based production and service presentation.

 

“SMART FACTORY” AS AN ELEMENT OF INDUSTRY 4.0

 

Given that management form of a factory is pyramid; there is CNC machinery on the bottom, SPS as cell unit management built on it, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for management, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) for planning and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system on the top. May this modeling is ideal to most of us; however companies in current status may us all techniques specified above. As a ring of total added value chain, companies will skip to a decentralized management-operation model which ensures flexibility, creates a different array in a cloud and is supported by new virtual techniques (for example VRC - Virtual Robot Controller, VNC - Virtual Numerical Control) instead of the pyramid as an architectural structure while they are being redesigned. Connection of such operation model with supplier companies and/or other production units are also interpreted over a cloud-based system. Even if turning this interpretation into reality in real life may take a while, this has started to become a reality in virtual environments. CPS was also considered as a technical solution connecting physical world and virtual world, wasn’t it? As understood from the reason why I mentioned briefly about “Smart Factory” as an element of Industry 4.0, we have to prepare our companies according to requirements of the new era. Otherwise, both our companies providing product (machinery, installation) and companies functioning as supplier will go under a big danger.

What is Digital Transformation is a Business Transformation to skip to a customer-oriented system by using technology.  In other words, the aim is to change all business processes which will meet expectations of customers.

 

As you know, expectations and habits of consumers have changed substantially with development of technology. Therefore, companies satisfying consumers whose expectations and habits changed to this extent won the competition war. So, the need to skip to Digital Transformation arose at this point.

Customer Acquisition: At this step, you determine your target audience for your product or service. Demographical features, language, field of interest, need of your target customer should be analyzed at this step. In other words, we get to know potential customers and try to reach them.

 

Customer Activation: Assume that we determine our target audience at the acquisition step properly and they visit us, the next step is to turn this audience into customer, namely to convince your target audience to buy your products or services. Each activity you carry out in order to achieve this consists this process.

 

Customer Retention: No matter how good your products or services are, if customers you gain first does not perform the purchase process continuously, it is not possible to mention about sales success. When you make purchase behavior sustainable by providing customer retention through various strategies, you are deemed to achieve the real success.

 

Customer Referral: It is not for nothing to say that what is the best advertisement is the one made through news spreading abroad. If your customer recommends you to others, it means more customer acquisition.

 

Customer Revenue: It is the step to gain revenue from your product/service. It is the step at which you seek for answers for the questions about how you draw the attention of your potential customers and what you should care, and you should develop strategies according to this.

 

Realizing the titles in this metric is based on transforming all processes in your company as customer-oriented. In other words, if you do not have a Digital Transformation Road Map and you realize the transformation only consisting of smart factories, your sales sustainability does not seem possible. Skipping to Industry 4.0 may not be enough to deal with the competitors.
